NEW! InfraLab Series 9 Food Analyser

Picture

Rapid, At-Line Analysis of Moisture, Fat/Oil,
Protein and Degree of Bake

The non-contact InfraLab Series 9 At-Line Food Analyser provides rapid accurate measurement of moisture, fat and protein in single- or multiple-component configurations in a variety of food products.
Picture
.
  • Enhance Product Quality and Consistency – through more representative process sampling
  • Intuitive, Easy to Use – requires no special operator skills
  • Test More in Less Time and Save – provides analysis results in just 5 seconds, delivering substantial savings through cost reduction from routine sampling
  • Designed for Food Processing – hygienic design using food-safe materials, pass code protected user log-in access, rugged and robust enough to be used in a production area
  • Environmentally Robust – measurements unaffected by product and ambient changes such as temperature, relative humidity and factory lighting
  • Versatile – available in single- or multi-component measurement configurations

How it Works
Easy-to-use, the InfraLab requires no special operator skills, and takes just 5 seconds to make the analysis.

Using multi-wavelength NIR reflection, the InfraLab does not require contact with the product sample. The sample dish is placed on the turntable; the InfraLab automatically recognizes that it has been placed there and begins the analysis.

The InfraLab has its own substantial onboard data storage capacity (up to 100,000 sample files), but data can also be downloaded periodically to a USB memory stick (encrypted) or directly to a PC for analysis in a spreadsheet or other software. Alternatively, it connects via Ethernet to a PC where the data is stored and displayed and can also be integrated into a LIMS network.

                                                                  At the Process Line
The InfraLab is designed to be calibrated to your laboratory method such as Gravimetric Oven or Karl Fischer for Moisture, Soxhlet for Fat and Kjeldahl for Protein. This means that you can enjoy laboratory accuracy without the costs, the chemicals or the time associated with lab methods. In short, InfraLab Series 9 offers a number of key benefits:
  • Improvements to product quality and consistency by allowing more representative process sampling
  • Significant time and costs savings for routine QC analysis
  • Requires no special skills for routine use

HART Communication protocol: Tips, Tricks & Recommendations to optimize your workload.

30/1/2023

Firstly, What is HART?
Highway Addressable Remote Transducer, known as HART, is a communication protocol that allows users to communicate with smart devices. This is achieved by using analog wiring to communicate directly with a smart device i.e. a Burns Engineering T55 Temperature Transmitter.
This standard has been implemented since the mid-1980s and is the most popular communication protocol used today.
Burns Engineering T55 temperature transmitter
Burns Engineering T55 Temperature Transmitter
Before HART was established, older devices traditionally had to be adjusted and set up by either:
  • Adjusting the span and range screws at the device.
  • Removing the casing of the device and changing out the range jumpers on the PCB.
With the establishment of the HART communication protocol, users can simply connect up to the device (as displayed below) and communicate to either a single or a multiple number of devices.
Picture

---- TIP 1 ----
Establishing the type of work and determining
what you need to achieve it
This is probably the most important aspect to consider when using or choosing the right HART communication device for your application.
With the various amounts of HART communicators available, it sometimes can be difficult to choose the correct job for the tool. For example, if a calibration technician would like to perform a pressure calibration on a transmitter, wouldn’t it be much more beneficial to have a pressure calibrator with built-in HART comms, rather than a separate communicator and calibrator?
Considerations like this will save you time and money.
Some worthwhile questions to ask yourself when choosing a viable HART communicator may be:
  • Is my HART communicator flexible and can I do other tasks with it?
  • Is it user friendly?
  • Do I have good technical support that I can trust and rely on?
  • Is there more communication protocols available like ISA100, Profibus etc.?
Picture
Fluke 729 - Automatic Pressure Calibrator with built in HART Comms.
---- TIP 2 ----
Don’t forget your 250 OHM Resistor!
This tip is definitely worth paying attention to! Speaking from experience there is nothing worse than preparing to do a calibration on a smart device and then suddenly realizing that there is no 250Ω resistor in the loop.
You would be correct to think that not all communicators require a 250Ω resistor within the loop but that is not always the case. If you can, always have a couple of 250Ω resistors in your pocket just in case!
Why is it 250Ω resistor?
HART Communication technology has a very low power requirement (less than 3.8mA).
HART utilizes a frequency shift keying (FSK) modem to communicate over the primary variable analog signal wires.
By imposing the digital signal on top of the 4-20mA analog loop, HART allows for a simultaneous analog signal with a continuous digital communication signal that has no effect on the analog signal.
A minimum resistance of 230Ω is required to create an impedance with in the loop to allow for HART communication, so typically a 250Ω resistor is recommended as its easily available.
IPP’s Recommendation:
A Recommendation for a HART communication tool that is both reliable and cost conscious is Yokogawa’s Field Device management tool: FieldMate.
FieldMate  is a PC based configuration tool that performs numerous tasks, including:
  • initial setup,
  •  daily maintenance,
  • troubleshooting,
  • configuration backup for device replacement.
These task are streamlined by FieldMate's intuitive operation and integrated environment, which is independent from communication protocols and device vendors.
Picture
FieldMate supports the following communication protocols:
o BRAIN
o
FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1
o HART
o PROFIBUS
o
ISA100.11a
o Modbus

Its user friendly design allows users to complete more complex tasks with confidence and ease. For example, with the ISA100 communication function, users can easily configure and provision wireless instruments in a matter of minutes which cuts down on installation and commissioning times greatly!

The end of the year can be quite hectic. You’re wrapping up projects, closing deals, and strategically planning 2023. It’s understandable that the last thing you want to focus on is new projects. However, would the better option be to look for opportunities to spend your left over budget on services you can use later?

Having a look at our latest newsletter might give you a few ideas on what to do with that leftover budget money, because once you lose it you can’t go back!

The Yokogawa Wireless Sushi Sensors recently won Plant Engineering's 'Product of the Year' award to go with the PAM 2020 award for 'Best Asset Monitoring Technology'.

The Sushi Sensors utilise IIoT wireless technology to provide asset monitoring of critical equipment for preventative maintenance.

Parameters monitored include Vibration, Pressure and Temperature.

These products can prevent costly downtime and equipment repairs while improving safety for process equipment and plant personnel.
Picture
Yokogawas's ideal equipment maintenance

To ensure the safety and quality of production, it is important to maintain production equipment appropriately. Mounted on many instruments, Sushi Sensor uses industrial IoT technology to monitor their status. Sushi Sensor can help perform the following tasks for condition-based maintenance (CBM):
■ Identifying the status of the entire equipment in plant and visualizing its soundness
■ Monitoring the trends and precisely identifying signs of abnormality
■ Accumulating digital data of instruments and optimizing equipment maintenance plans

CBM enables customers to optimize equipment inspection (reducing inspectors’ workload and improving safety) and reduce the total cost. Yokogawa helps customers achieve CBM and minimize equipment maintenance costs.

If you want to optimise your equipment and minimise maintenance costs,
then contact us now.
